Case study
An accessible energy data dashboard for a US government agency
Interactive dashboards and maps that turned large energy datasets into clear, accessible views for policymakers and the public.
- Typical dashboard filter response
- < 1s
- Accessibility target met
- WCAG AA
- Data access for non-analysts
- Self-serve
The challenge
Energy consumption and programme data lived in large datasets that only a handful of analysts could query. Policymakers relied on static reports that were out of date on arrival.
The public-facing tool also had to meet Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements.
Our solution
We built a .NET Core API over a curated PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch data layer, with a React front end offering filterable charts, maps and downloadable data.
Every chart has an accessible data-table alternative, full keyboard support and screen-reader descriptions, and we tested against WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Sub-second filtering across millions of records
- Accessible charts with table alternatives
- Self-serve exports for analysts and the public
